Kevin Sherwood
Being naturally driven by the desire to find something in life that had meaning, Kevin Sherwood picked up a guitar and began singing about this search at age 17. Writing songs became a life-long expression of his personal journey of introspection and self-discovery.
Born in Southern California into a family of singers, Kevin was drawn to creative endeavors that included both drama and music. Kevin attended Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, receiving a BA in theater with a minor in music. He studied classical guitar with Michael Miranda, exploring a variety of musical genres. Furthering his skills by performing with the Loyola Jazz Ensemble, he was fortunate to receive the guidance and instruction of the famous saxophone/clarinet jazz musician, Buddy Collette. He was also a member of the Loyola Men’s University Chorus under the direction of the Grammy-nominated Los Angeles Master Chorale conductor, Paul Salamunovich. Following his time at Loyola, Kevin studied method acting at the Joanne Baron / D.W. Brown Studio in Santa Monica, CA.
As an actor, Kevin has appeared in two independent feature films written and directed by Christopher Folino. In the cult classic Gamers, Kevin was an executive producer for the film, and starred as the Dungeon Lord of a 30-something group of role-playing gamers. Along with Tom Hite, Kevin composed and performed the comedy soundtrack, which included the highly entertaining song entitled, “Wake Up Dick.” The second film, Sparks, is a super hero noir thriller where Kevin portrayed a dirty cop partnered with the incomparable Clancy Brown.
As a musician, Kevin has performed in a number of local L.A. and Inland Empire rock bands, the most notable of which were Plato’s Bazaar, Zone Trooper Charlie, Secret, and finally Whiplads. These groups played regularly in the hottest clubs in L.A. including the House of Blues on Sunset, the Knitting Factory, and the Whiskey, among many others.
After a number of years collaborating with Whiplads, Kevin focused on his singing and songwriting as a solo acoustic artist. Through songwriting he relates his life’s story of experiences, recognitions, and an intimate journey of introspection. His current release, “8 Years Later,” is a collection of songs written throughout his life of seeking, as well as a few more recently composed songs with themes of love and devotion. The sound is mostly mellow, soulful, indie acoustic music inspired by his study and practice of Surat Shabda Yoga on the MasterPath with Sat Guru Sri Gary Olsen.
Kevin’s second solo album is currently in the development phase and will begin production sometime next year.
